Nursery Expertise. Bluff Creek Farm’s careful nurturing methods, advanced over years of experience, insure healthy field grown trees that are ready for transplanting.
Irrigation. Irrigation methods have advanced appreciably over the recent decades. All 350 acres of the Big Rock and Hinckley field grown trees have drip irrigation available during their periods of field growth. After digging, watering is important. The Big Rock and Hinckley nurseries have drip irrigation systems in our holding yards to assure the viability of our stock.
Transplanting. Trees are dug during optimal seasons, and we prefer to use oversized dirt balls with heavily treated burlap and wire baskets to accommodate any delays until planting. Special requests for special sizes of dirt balls can be arranged at your request.
Bluff Creek Farm is committed to offering high quality trees with the best possible services and prices. We also practice responsible environmental stewardship.
History. Bluff Creek Farm was established in 1988 with the purchase of the first parcel, formerly a grain farm, at the Big Rock location. The other sites, nearby Hinckley IL (125 acres) and LaBelle FL (320 acres), were added later.
The original 230-acre Big Rock site is approximately 45 mile west of Chicago and extends one half mile along Big Rock Creek. The creek is one of the most pristine in Illinois and is home to 27 species of fish.
Stewardship. The decision to establish a commercial tree farm in Big Rock provides a feasible way to provide good environmental stewardship for the area. The trees grown at the Big Rock nursery have stabilized the soil which helps to keep the creek clear and convert carbon dioxide emissions into oxygen.
Bluff Creek Farm is committed to effective environmental stewardship of land, water, and air resources. We put sound environmental policy into practice at each of our sites. We encourage and assist the buyers and end-users of our trees to be responsible environmental stewards.
Professional Memberships. Bluff Creek Farm is a member of the following professional and business associations:
